Week 9

We had a very active day on Monday. First we had Project Energise with Whaea Gina, then we had our last swimming lesson for the term - no more swimming until Term 4. In the afternoon we walked over to Kaikohe Intermediate to watch the rugby game. Kaikohe West won by 3 tries. Do you think our chant "Go West, Go West" helped them? We do!
On Wednesday we went over to Room 15 and made a korowai for Mrs Bingham:

Some of Mrs Bingham's favourite things: smiley faces, Dr Seuss books, stars and love hearts.
On Thursday the Easter Bunny hid some eggs in our classroom. We were really good at finding them, then we estimated how many there were. Charlie-Gurl came up with a good strategy so we made groups of 10 and it was easy to see there were 90 eggs. We divided them into our Easter baskets so it was fair and took them home to share with our whanau.

We have been thinking about how we learn: who helps us, what do we use and where do we learn? We drew Learning Maps:

Next term we are hoping to make some videos to share our learning goals with you.

Term 1 Week 7

We had 100% attendance on Wednesday so we took a new class photo - our new header photo!
Here is a silly photo we took at the same time:

We also had a Duffy Assembly and Harmony went up on stage to represent our class. We couldn't wait to start reading as soon as we got back to the classroom.

Quite a few Room 1 students have been attending Drama Club at lunchtimes with Miss Nicola. They learnt how to make a video book using Book Creator on the iPads. Back in class, they made a Mr Men book to show the class. We are hoping they will teach us all how to make our own books. Check out their book here:

Term Week 5

We had another busy week at school and worked so hard that we earned a whole 40 minutes of free choice on Friday! On Monday Whaea Gina came to teach us some cooperative games and we went swimming. We spent lots of time with our buddy class, Room 9 on Tuesday and swam again on Wednesday. After writing recounts of our Kiwi House trip we published them on Thursday. Here are a couple of examples of what we did:

Kiwi House

Last week on Friday we went to the Kiwi House. We had our morning tea then we went to the Museum. After we went to the Museum we went to the forest to find bugs, we each got a jug to collect the insects and bugs we found. The Juniors of Kaikohe West School went to see the Kiwis. I felt HAPPY and HOT and I had fun too.

Going to the Kiwi House

Last week on Friday the class and the juniors went on the bus to the Kiwi House in Whangarei. It took a long time to get there so my mum put some music on. She let me,Sky,Honey, and Catherine  have a turn on the ipad. Rosie,Harmony, and Moko liked the music. Room1 and the juniors went to the Kiwi House. When we got there we had something to eat.I had a drink then ate half of my pizza then Mrs Bingham said, “Come on Group C, I know a better place to eat”. We went with Mrs Bingham. We went in a kind of village with adults in it. I felt exhausted when we got back to school. I asked my mum if I could go with her but she said, “No”.

Term 1 Week 3

We are heading down to Whangarei next week to visit the Kiwi House. This week we worked in groups to create KWL charts showing what we Know and what we Want to know about kiwi birds. Here is Maia and Azalea's video filmed by Sky:

Here are some of the things Room 1 wanted to know:
  • Why don't kiwi fly?
  • Why do kiwi go to sleep in the day and wake up at night?
  • Why are kiwi fat?
Before we go to the Kiwi House we will be writing information reports and answering some of these questions.

On Friday Room 9 came to visit us and read their readers to us. Then we read them our library books. We are showing whanaungatanga by being awesome tuakana.

Jacob and Moko working listening to their buddy reading.
